Interior Repainting FAQ

Can Ranchwood Construction Inc. match paint to any color?

Yes, Ranchwood Construction Inc. can match any color interior or exterior.

If I am going from a dark wall color to a light wall color do I need to add primer?

Yes, if you are going from a dark color/high gloss shade, you will need to add primer otherwise the existing color/shade will show through the new color.

If the existing color of my wall is the same as the new color being painted will I need to paint 2 coats?

We always recommend applying 2 coats to maximize the new paint's longevity.

I only need a small area on the wall painted. Will painting it with fresh paint leave a line?

This depends on how old your existing wall color is? When was it last painted? If the paint is very old (5-10 years old), it will leave a line because the old paint (even though it may be interior) has oxidized over time.

What typically affects the price of painting estimates?

The line items that typically move the needle for painting estimates are the following:

  • Are you painting the ceiling? If so, is the ceiling a different color from the walls?

  • Are you painting baseboards (the wooden part that borders the floor and the wall)?

  • Are you painting crown molding (the wooden part that meets between the ceiling and the wall)?

  • What is the existing color of your walls? What color do you want to take it to? (this helps determine whether you need to prime the walls or not)

  • Do you have any wallpaper, decor, drywall repair that needs to happen prior to painting?

  • Do you have high ceilings?

  • Is the area clear for painting OR will we be moving furniture?

What is the difference between the different shades of paint (flat, matte, satin, eggshell, semi-gloss)?

Some of these serve a purpose, others are just preference. Typically the rule of thumb is that high impact areas (places where people constantly touch their hands) should be a more glossier shade. The reason why is that the glossy shades hide hand marks more than matte shades.

How long does it typically take to repaint my entire home's interior?

This is dependent on a few variables like size of home, number of rooms, high ceilings, etc… BUT complete home interior repairing can range from 4 working days - 10 working days.

Can I live inside the home when it’s being repainted?

If you are repainting the entire home, we don’t recommend staying inside the home. If you MUST stay inside the home we recommend only occupying one room as our team moves quickly to complete the project so you can get back to normal life.

Are custom colors returnable?

No, hardware stores or paint stores will not allow you to return unused custom colors.

Do you offer curb address repainting?

As of right now we do not offer curb (address) repainting.

What color/shade do people paint the ceiling?

Most clients paint the ceiling white/flat shade.

Why does changing colors from room to room affect the estimate amount?

Changing colors affects the estimated amount because the crew needs to spend time cutting the walls between where two colors meet. Also each time colors are switched, paint brushes and pans must be washed.

Do I need to move my furniture in order to paint the entire home interior?

We recommend that all clients remove their furniture from the home prior to painting. It’s the best way of ensuring that nothing will get damaged. We emphasize that you remove your furniture if you are painting your ceiling. Ceiling painting can get messy as gravity is working against you. Paint can start dripping down the walls and on the floor.

Can I repaint my popcorn ceiling?

Yes, you can repaint your popcorn ceiling. We recommend removing the furniture from the room. Repainting ceilings in general get messy and can have paint dripping everywhere.

Can I remove my popcorn ceiling?

We can scrape or encapsulate your popcorn ceiling. This all depends on the conditions of the home. Encapsulating means we’ll cover the popcorn ceiling with ¼ inch thick drywall.

How much does it cost to paint interior doors?

The price is dependent on a number of line items/variables. Here are the following line items that affect the price of interior door repainting:

  • Are we installing the door?

  • Are we installing door trim (the wooden finishes that go around doors and windows)?

  • Is the door already painted?

Already installed doors that just need painting: $100 - $150/door. Doors that need install, trim/molding install, painting: $300 - $450/door.

What is the difference between spray and "brush & roll" when it comes to paint application?

Spraying and "brush & roll" are both acceptable ways to apply paint as long as the paint is put on at the proper spread rate (sq. ft./gallon). Spraying will provide a smoother appearance but is difficult to touch up. Brushing and rolling paint doesn't give as smooth an appearance as spraying, but is easier to touch up. Some people say that sprayed paint will not adhere as well as brushed & rolled paint but, if the surface is totally clean, both methods will adhere properly. Peeling problems can arise when sprayed paint is applied to a partially cleaned or dirty wall or surface. Depending on the surface to be painted and the condition and location it is in, a quality paint applicator will decide whether a spray or brush & rolled application technique is the best choice for the project.

Exterior Repainting FAQ

What’s involved in home exterior repainting?

Here’s our typical approach to exterior home repainting:

  • Power wash the entire home and let dry

  • Cover all floors (concrete, grass, etc..) that could get paint splattered on them

  • Cover all the windows, doors, water spouts, etc..

  • (Optional - Depending on condition of home) - Stucco/siding repair

  • (Optional - Dependant on home condition/clients wants) - Prime entire exterior

  • Start painting

  • Site inspection and cleanup

What shades do exterior paints come in?

They may differ slightly from paint brands, however exterior paints typically come in the following shades:

  • Flatt

  • Matte

  • Satin

  • Semi-gloss

What is the difference between standard paint exterior and elastomeric exterior paint?

Standard exterior paint has a higher resistance barrier to being weathered when compared to interior paint. Elastomeric exterior paint has silicone particles and other additives mixed into it to fill in stucco cracks and flex when new cracks appear. Typically customers who live in harsher conditions use elastomeric paint (by the beach - salt in the air that can weather your paint quicker, etc…)

How long does full exterior repainting take?

This depends on a number of variables (How big is the home? Is the stucco condition good for paint?, Do we need to do stucco or siding repair prior to painting?, Do we need to prime the walls?, Is the house easily accessible?) however, exterior repainting can range from 6 working days - 15 working days.

When is it a good time to repaint my home's exterior?

There’s no real key decision making factor to this. Some clients like doing it when the paint is looking dirty and old. Other clients repaint the exterior prior to selling/renting to home to increase curb appeal.

Does Ranchwood Construction Inc offer financing?

Yes, we offer a variety of different financing options. Our project managers will be happy to walk you through the application process.

What Our Customers Are Saying

"Best communication from any construction company I’ve ever hired. My pocket door in my bathroom needed to be replaced. Stephen showed up with his team member and knocked out the entire project in 2 days. They changed the frame, hung the drywall, installed the door and painted everything. Throughout Stephen was running back and forth to Home Depot to make sure everything was put back to the original design. Thanks guys."

- Joshua Gonzalez

"Last year we moved into a new office building. I hired Stephen and Sam to repair some drywall in a few of the conference rooms and repaint all rooms. Once the project started Stephen was my main point of contact. Himself and the crew were always on time, clean and fast! I didn’t want to get into hot water with my landlord as the flooring is carpet. Stephen and his crew made sure that every square inch of the floor was covered with painters paper and they made sure no drippings hit the floor while the paint was drying. Even after the project they came back out to correct a few touch ups. Overall great to work with and great experience. Thanks Stephen."

- Alex Lee

"Fantastic to work with. Quick responses, attentive, consistently professional, local, and high quality work. Stephen and his team were great communicators throughout the entire process of remodeling our master bedroom to convert the existing closets to a walk-in. Even when we asked for changes midway through they were quick to pivot and provide good feedback without coming across as rude or unprofessional in the slightest. They were clear and open about schedule and their quote was accurate and reasonably priced. Looking forward to working with them in the future, and they're the kind of business and people I would have no hesitation recommending to my grandmother. A+!"
